Blaenau Gwent Business Awards Launched - Apply Now!!!

 

Blaenau Gwent CBC cordially invites you to enter the Blaenau Gwent Business Awards 2020.

The awards will culminate in ceremony and dinner on 20th March 2020 at the General Offices, Ebbw Vale. This will include: drinks on arrival, a two course meal and the opportunity to network with the most successful businesses in the area.

The Blaenau Gwent Business Awards 2020 are open to all businesses based in Blaenau Gwent.

The categories of awards include:

Entrepreneur of the Year

Micro Business of the Year (1-10 employees)

Small Business of the Year (11-49 employee)

Manufacturing Business of the Year

Retail or Service Business of the Year

Excellence in Innovation & Technology

Social Enterprise of the Year

Tourism & Hospitality Business of the Year

Entry Criteria

The entry criteria for each category are listed below. If you are keen to enter, please return your application form to business@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk or Economic Development Unit, Blaenau Gwent CBC, Civic Centre, Ebbw Vale, NP23 6XB (Please note: hard copies of applications forms cannot be returned).

  General Conditions

 

  1. Must be based or operate in Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.
  2. Will need to provide details in the application form, in accordance with the entry criteria of the specific category.
  3. Applicants may apply for more than one category.
  4. Where a word limit is indicated for a question on the form, this must be adhered to.
  5. Do not submit supplementary information.All information to support your application must be contained within the questions set out in the form.
  6. Applications will be accepted from Friday 3rd January 2020.
  7. All applicants must have applied for entry no later than 5pm on 17th January 2020.
  8. Applicants will be shortlisted and notified no later than Friday 7th February 2020.
  9. Shortlisted businesses will be required to attend filming at the General Offices between 10th February and 24th February 2020.

 

Entrepreneur of the Year

 

  • Outline your career and achievements to date
  • Why you started your business
  • Highlight your company’s business activities, its products/services, company size, and turnover and profitability.
  • What contribution/s have you made to the development of the business? For example, investment in product/service development, improved manufacturing methods, market position, introduction of quality standards/initiatives, training activities etc.
  • What personal characteristics do you feel have made you successful?
  • Provide details on any activities you are involved in outside of your business life showing the relevance to the local community.
  • What issues/problems or barriers (if any) did you overcome?
  • What have you learnt most about running your business?
  • What is the best advice that you have acted upon?

 

Micro Business of the Year (1-10 employees)

 

  • What makes your business stand out from others?
  • Provide details of most notable achievements to date
  • Provide evidence, particularly testimonials from customers, of exceptional customer service (social media reviews acceptable).
  • Provide your current and future employment template
  • Highlight your commitment to equal opportunities and environmental sustainability.

 

Small Business of the Year (11-49 employee)

 

  • What makes your business stand out from others?
  • Provide details of most notable achievements to date
  • Provide evidence, particularly testimonials from customers, of exceptional customer service (social media reviews acceptable).
  • Provide your current and future employment template
  • Highlight your commitment to equal opportunities and environmental sustainability.

 

  Manufacturing Business of the Year

 

  • What makes your business stand out from others?Provide evidence where possible.
  • Provide details of most notable achievements to date.
  • Evidence of product and process initiatives to improve outputs/quality
  • Highlight commitment to equal opportunities and environmental sustainability.

 

Retail or Service Business of the Year

 

  • Provide details of the value and contribution to our Blaenau Gwent high street/Blaenau Gwent economy.
  • How do you demonstrate an innovative approach to the way which the retailer/service business operates in a highly competitive market?
  • Can you highlight a sales and marketing strategy which addresses the needs for business growth and survival?
  • Highlight the use of e-commerce and social media currently used
  • How do you demonstrate an exceptional high level of customer service?

 

Excellence in Innovation & Technology

 

  • Provide detailed evidence of how the business has been innovative – this can be something that is innovative for your particular company. It can be, but doesn’t have to be, something no other business has done before.
  • Provide details of what makes your business stand out from others.
  • Provide details of most notable achievements to date.
  • Describe commitment to equal opportunities and environmental sustainability

 

Social Enterprise of the Year

 

  • Provide details of how you make a positive impact on society/communities and/or environment
  • Provide details of how you make a positive impact on the lives of individuals?
  • Provide details of your potential for future development growth and sustainability?
  • Complete current and future employment template.
  • Describe commitment to equal opportunities and environmental sustainability.

 

Tourism & Hospitality Business of the Year

 

  • Tell us how you develop a distinctive sense of place.
  • How do you support the wider tourism industry?
  • Tell us about who are your visitors, how do you reach them and how do you measure success.
  • Tell us about your customer service, how far do you go to make them special, how do you cater for specific needs and how do you measure customer satisfaction.
  • How does your business support the local economy and environment?
  • Are there any other matters of significance you would like to add?

 

 Blaenau Gwent Business of the Year 2020

 

The Blaenau Gwent Business of the Year Award 2020 will be chosen from amongst the winners of each individual category.

The Blaenau Gwent Business Awards 2020 are open to all businesses based in Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.

We will shortlist to three potential winners for each award.

The winner of each category will receive;
