UPDATE JUNE 2020: The grant scheme is designed to be flexible to the needs of business and whilst focused upon business that has been trading for up to 3 years, applications from businesses trading over 3 years will be considered on a case by case basis due to the current Covid-19 restrictions.  To find out more, contact 01495 355700 or email

Kick Start Plus is a joint initiative funded by UK Steel Enterprise and administered by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council. The grant is aimed at supporting new businesses from 6 months up to 3 years old, to help them develop and expand. 


Businesses must be based in Blaenau Gwent in order to be eligible. 

The business should be operating for more than 30 hours per week. 

The grant is discretionary and may provide up to 50% of eligible expenditure, to a maximum of £1,000 of support. 

Eligible expenditure includes ICT, Marketing, Website Development, Training and Accreditation costs. Other costs may be considered if ways of adding value to the business can be demonstrated. 

Ineligible expenditure includes VAT, vehicles, stock, consumables and revenue costs. 

The grant will not be paid retrospectively, therefore, eligible project expenditure must not commence before approval. If any element of the eligible expenditure is committed prior to approval, the application may be rejected. 

Application Process

Initial expression of interest form providing brief outline of project, if accepted: - 

Application form and cash flow forecast must be accompanied by 2 quotes and 6 months management accounts 

Factors considered: Jobs created and/or safeguarded, Value for money, Economic Impact, Case Officer Evaluation

Grant Offer

• Confirmation of approval letter and grant agreement to be signed and returned to confirm acceptance of offer 


Proof of expenditure will be required for all items claimed. Grant will be paid direct into business bank account on receipt of proof of expenditure.
