Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is highlighting the positive impact of investment delivered through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UK SPF), which has delivered support to local businesses, stimulate economic growth, and create employment opportunities across the county borough.
Through a range of targeted grant programmes, a total of 88 businesses have been supported to date, resulting in the creation of 52 new jobs and helping enterprises to start up, grow, and strengthen their operations.
Supporting businesses at every stage
The UK SPF grants have provided tailored support across multiple sectors and business stages:
- The Start Up Grant supported 7 businesses, creating 16 new jobs, helping entrepreneurs establish and grow their ventures locally.
- The Retail and Service Grant supported 21 businesses, resulting in 8.5 jobs created, strengthening high street and service‑based enterprises.
- The Business Development Grant assisted 24 businesses and contributed to 27.5 jobs created, supporting expansion, innovation and long‑term sustainability.
- The Social Enterprise Grant supported 4 organisations, helping enterprises that deliver social and community benefits.
- The Tourism Grant supported 1 business, contributing to the county borough’s visitor economy.
- The Kick Start Plus Grant supported 2 businesses, helping employers invest in growth and resilience.
In addition, 29 fully funded websites have been created for local businesses, improving digital presence, visibility, and access to new markets.

Collectively, the UK SPF grants demonstrate Blaenau Gwent Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting local enterprises, encouraging job creation, and strengthening the local economy.
